Here’s my personal experience with InterServer Hosting, thus my Interserver Review.
With so many web hosting providers available, it’s hard to choose one.
InterServer is a great option if you’re looking for a good deal on hosting.
In this article, I will share my experience of working with them as well as some other pros and cons of the company. If you are ready to sign up for their service, let’s begin!
I was using Namecheap before I moved to InterServer because I was always having downtime, since I had JetPack Plugin installed and one of the features of this plugin is to send me a mail when any of my websites is down.
And on many occasions, I receive email about website downtime, and it’s not asif the websites were having pull of traffic, they get less than 2,000/mo visitors combined, because they were new websites.
So, I had to move to InterServer when I had the opportunity.
Since I moved to Interserver, I rarely have downtimes unless when a plugin needs an update and it’s conflicting with the theme or other plugins making the website to be unresponsive.
When it comes to hosting, you can’t go wrong with InterServer.
More so, their pricing are quite cheap, when I moved to Interserver, I started with their Shared Hosting until I upgraded to their VPS plan, I’m currently on a VPS plan and life’s good.. haha
Their pricing starts at just $2.50/mo for shared hosting, but they also provide every type of hosting in their own data centers, including ASP.NET hosting, cheap VPS options, dedicated servers, collocations and even data storage options.
If you move to Interserver or purchase a Shared Hosting for the first time or with a new account, you will get 65% for the first year.
Their normal pricing is $5 per month, but for the first year, you would pay $2.50 per month.
This means, if you go with their Shared Hosting, you would pay the following:
InterServer Shared Hosting Pricing
- $15 for 6 months
- $30 for 12 months
- $60 for 24 months
You can get started on InterServer using this link and get your FIRST MONTH for Free or use coupon code “JOYOKORO” on checkout.
This means, you can pay as low as $12.50 for 6 months because you got the first month for FREE.
… and this 1 Month FREE also applies to ANY PLAN on Interserver, be it VPS, DEDICATED SERVERS etc.
On the Shared Hosting, you have to pay from 6 months ($12.50) and above to qualify for the FIRST FREE MONTH.
This means you have to choose the 6 months, 12 months or 24 months plan and NOT the monthly plan where you have to pay monthly.
Features
- $65% Off and $0.01 for the first month
- NO contracts and NO sudden price increases
- Unlimited storage space, data transfers, and email
- Register or transfer domains for $7.99
- 99.9% uptime and price-lock guarantee
Is InterServer Support Good?
I read a review somewhere that Interserver’s support isn’t so good, but I wonder if he really meant what he said because throughout my years of using Interserver, If I have a technical problem with any of my sites, first I try to solve them myself by going through tutorials on google because I love to learn new things.
But If the problem is beyond me, I will simply open a support ticket from my Interserver dashboard and they would reply back within 15-20 minutes, what interests me is, they reply you back not to acknowledge your mail but they reply you to tell you the problem is now solved.
In the photo below, after I sent a ticket, I got automated email immediately at 7:38am and a second mail came at 8:07am telling me the problem solved.
They ain’t wasting any time at all in solving your problems.
… and their technical team is well experienced, they do things in minutes and I commend them for that.
You should be sure you’re in good hands when using Interserver.
Not to mention you can contact them using live chat too for faster response, but some technical jobs would need a ticket to be opened.
When I had similar problems in Namecheap, they sent me links to go through a guide to solve it myself, I mean if I knew how to do it, I wouldn’t bother sending you a mail, right?
I’m not trying to paint namecheap black but whatever I’m saying is what I experienced.
Other Interserver Pricing Options
Like I said before, their pricing starts at just $2.50/mo for shared hosting, but they also provide every type of hosting in their own data centers, including ASP.NET hosting, cheap VPS options, dedicated servers, collocations and even data storage options.
So, depending on your website, you can choose the plan that matters to you and if this information helps, I have over 20 working websites hosted on the shared hosting before I moved to VPS.
But 70% of the websites are 1 page websites used as landing pages, however below are the various plans with their features.
1. Shared hosting ⎯ Beginners looking for ease of use and low prices.
2. ASP.NET HOSTING ⎯ Hosting using Windows Interface.
3. VPS Hosting ⎯ An advanced hosting with dedicated server space.
4. Reseller Hosting ⎯ For agencies, freelance developers or designers looking to sell websites.
5. Dedicated Hosting ⎯ Advanced solutions. You get a private server with all its resources and management responsibilities.
6. Collocations Hosting ⎯ Renting datacenter space for your own servers. Ensures security and redundancy.
Want to Migrate From Your Old Hosting?
After you have purchased your plan on Interserver, you can open a support ticket from your dashboard and let them know you want to migrate from your old host to your Interserver hosting, then relax and watch them do it and don’t worry, your website(s) wouldn’t go offline throughout the migration.
Connecting a Domain and Installing WordPress On InterServer
Step 1: Linking Domain To InterServer (Change Nameservers)
If you bought your domain outside Interserver, you have to link it to interserver in other to install wordpress and to do this, you have to visit your domain registrar and change the NameServers to Interserver NameServers.
To find your interserver nameservers, on your interserver dashboard, click on “Web Hosting“.
Next page, you will a list of your web hosting services, just at the end, you will see a “gear settings icon“, click on it.
.. and in the next page, you will see your “Default DNS Servers“, that is your nameserver. Nameservers can be different, so make you to use the one from your dashboard.
Step 2: Add the Domain to Interserver using the “Addon” Feature.
After adding interserver nameservers to your domain DNS server, the next thing is to add the domain to interserver using the addon feature.
With this feature, you can host as many websites you want on Interserver, all you have to do is, purchase a domain, change the nameserver and addon the domain to interserver.
To do this, head over to interserver cpanel, if you don’t know how, follow Step 1, and when you get to where to copy your Default DNS Server, on that same page, you will find the details below.
You can login using the “Automatic Login” in other to open your Cpanel.
On the cpanel, type “Addon” on the search bar.
… and you would find “Addon Domains“, click on it.
Then type in the domain name under the “New Domain Name” ONLY. When you do that, the other “Subdomain” and “Document Root” boxes will automatically fill in.
Click on the “Add Domain” button to continue.
Installing WordPress On InterServer
So you just changed your Nameservers and added the domain using the “addon” feature but if you purchased the domain on interserver then no need doing anything as the nameservers are already there, you just have to install WordPress right now.
To achieve this, we would be using Softaculous Apps Installer.
On your Cpanel dashboard, follow the same step as we did above and search for “Softaculous“, when it opens, click on “WordPress“.
.. when it opens, click on the “Install” button.
In Box 1 ⎯ choose protocol to be “https://“, under “choose domain“, click on the dropdown and select the domain name, and for the directory, make sure it’s EMPTY.
In Box 2 ⎯ Enter your choice of Username and Password as these are the login details you would use to login to your website as an admin.
For the admin email, select your choice of custom email, for example; hello@joyokoro.com and don’t worry, I will show you how to create a custom domain name for your website.
For the remaining box which is the Site Settings, you can edit them when you login to your website or you can as well change the text right there.
… leave the other options and scroll to the bottom, enter your normal email address and click on the “Install” button, and you’re done.
To access your website as an admin, you can use https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/ (replace yourdomain with your domain name), when the page opens, enter your username and password and you’re IN!
How To Create a Custom Email on Interserver?
Back to your cpanel dashboard, search for “Email Account” and click on it.
On the next page, click on the “Create” button.
.. and then, select the domain, choose your custom username, in my own case, I choose ‘hello’, which makes it “hello@joyokoro.com”, then enter your choice of password and click on the “Create” button.
